| The
sixties were a wonderful time on the club circuit. From
Las Vegas to Chicago we had a great time. Moments I
shall always cherish are Tony Bennett getting on stage
to sing with us, because the man can’t help it he has
to sing, or Mel Torme dropping in to hear us in Phoenix.
However joyous show business was, the need to raise
a family was greater, and in my book I couldn’t do both.
Family life in the suburbs was all I could ask for and
before I could turn around my children, Curtis and Lisa,
were all grown up and out on their own. The emptiness
took hold of me and the longing to sing again became
all consuming. Through the years we had kept in touch
with our pianist Michael Montano, who wrote all the
arrangements for my new album, and with prodding from
my husband Larry we started this project of love. Michael
suggested that I include the whole family since both
my children are singers and entertainers, and although
Larry was reluctant to sing again, we all agreed it
was a good idea. I was very nervous and yet so excited
at the same time to be able to sing again and fulfill
a dream of finally recording. So we went to Las Vegas
Recording Studios. My Larry sings with me on the song
“Just The Two Of Us”, my Daughter Lisa sings with me
on the song “That’s What Friends Are For” and my son
Curtis wrote and sings with me on the song “Real World”.
Curtis was my biggest supporter for me to sing again,
as you can see with the lyrics he wrote in the song
“Real World” he knew what I gave up in myself for the
“Real World”!
Here
are the lyrics:
So
little time to figure it out, the clock is ticking and
the world is in doubt. It’s up to me, I know just where
to go, I’m walking Toto going over the rainbow. And
I won’t be back, so I won’t be buying, no more tickets
to the real world. It’s going to have to do without
me. What’s in your mind is what you see in the mirror,
if no one told you than it has to be clear. The publication
of a reality are just words you don’t have to agree.
So return to sender, cause I won’t be buying, no more
subscriptions to the real world. I like my own space
and time, help me, the real world. It’s gonna have to
do without me. There’s a little girl who grew up in
this place, she ran away and did not leave a trace.
The light above shines down on my face, if I can see
it then I know that she waits, and I’m going to find
her, so I won’t be buying no more tickets for the real
world, I like my own space and time, help me, the real
world, it’s going to have to do without me!
My
first CD is dedicated to the memory of my father Sidney
Miller, who passed away January 29th, 1999, whom I was
named after. He was such a giving person to all who
knew him. He was one in a trillion. My father loved
challenges and always rose to the occasion. Solving
problems for people was his greatest joy and gift and
greatest smile and twinkle in his eye! I love you Daddy
and miss you so, yet know you’re always with me and
your family. (My Daddy appeared to my niece the night
he passed away in a dream, he took her into his workshop
and told her to call me and tell me to stop crying that
he was fine and happy and with my Mom and to continue
singing, for something wonderful would still happen
for me if I sang.) Well I’m singing again Daddy! The
love and joy I feel from singing again I hope you who
give a listen to this CD can feel that love which I
give to you. Love and God bless my family and friends
who believe in me, for you see dreams really do come
true.
Lovin’ you, Sydne
